In 1965, he founded the “Hamal Panchayat“, India’s first union for “head-loaders“, which became a blueprint for organizing informal laborers nationwide. His relentless efforts also played a crucial role in the creation of the “Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014“, which granted legal recognition and safeguards to millions of “street vendors” across India.Throughout his life, Dr. Adhav led numerous “peaceful protests” and “hunger strikes“, resulting in over 50 arrests.
